It all comes together with Betty Kay Charters! We are blessed with rich ocean habit – reefs and pinnacles from Cape Arago all the way down past Bandon – these are our fishing grounds! Captain Kurt, Captain Bill and Captain Alan want your whole fishing experience to be positive – from the time you leave the dock getting USCG safety instructions to tips on bringing in a great catch, to making you feel comfortable being out on the ocean! The captains work hard to get you on the fish and the deck hands, Jacob and Maxwell
work hard to help you get your fish on the boat! They are friendly, will reset your tackle, remove birds nests and advise you on many things to make your trip successful! It is a priviledge and an experience everyone should have at least once in life being out on the mighty Pacific ocean. Watch out, you might get “hooked” and want to come back for more! That is alright!
Being out on the ocean really gets you in touch with the power of nature. On any given day, you will see interesting things! You could see a big ship, tugs towing product, Cape Arago Lighthouse, other fishing boats plying their trade, big whales, sea lions, all kinds of sea birds, and who knows, the Cadborousaurus?
Summer brings the warm bodies of water and along with this, the albacore tuna feeding on the pathways of the oceans bounty... We are ready and heading out for the tuna grounds, 20 to 60 miles off shore. With the warm currents, a whole new ocean experience opens up! Out there in the warms waters the color of the ocean dazzles you with beautiful light turquoise clarity! You may see different kinds of whales, turtles, sun fish, blue & white sharks, albatros, dolphins and albacore tuna! Where there are birds, there are tuna! The adrenolin flows when landing an albacore tuna whether it is 10lbs or 30 lbs., the thrill of the catch is so good! We take up to 12 people out tuna fishing on our 12 hour trips. Pack lots of food and beverage, dress warm and be ready for great tuna fishing! Ask us for our tuna marinate recipe!
So far ocean salmon fishing is slow. I hope to get you an updated report in a few weeks!
Happy and safe fishing! Everyone enjoy and have a great summer!
At Betty Kay charters are enjoying some of the best rock fishing we've had in years. We started on March 2nd and have enjoyed a great year so far.! The Betty Kay and Shamrock are ready having completed all our annual USCG inspections with flying colors - as usual - thanks to Captain Bill.
Ocean rock fish sport catch remains at 7 rock fish plus 2 ling cod. We are glad about this! There is great ocean rock fishing ahead for you! We saw the California gray whale on it's return migration to Alaska from their winter breading in the Sea of Cortez, Baja California this spring. They'll be heading back soon.
The ocean has been pretty smooth and the weather pretty easy, a nice change from the rough & stormy ocean this winter with the el ninio affect, We hope the weather fronts continue to moderate so we can get you out for fun, adventure and great catches of ocean rock fish!
We at Betty Kay Charters will take all safety measures and reschedule our ocean fishing trips if winds & swells make ocean conditions unsafe to on the ocean. There will be more good off shore pacific halibut fishing and we should catch a few more then.
Captain Kurt will be returning this year. Captain Kathy says hello to everyone, but is not able to
return to running the Betty Kay after her ankle injury. Remember the 6 person boat Sea Blaze? Captain Bill is getting her ready to return to Betty Kay charters to make crabbing
trips, salmon, bay tours and clamming? We'll see what happens! The whole staff at Betty Kay Charters looks forward to a great season of fishing ahead and we hope to see you, our valued customers, again soon!
